Delete your account
How to delete your HorseCompanion account: step by step in the app, what is erased, what remains, and the route for anyone who has lost access to their account.
You can delete your HorseCompanion account yourself at any time. It happens inside the app, with no request form and no waiting period. This page describes the route step by step, says what is erased and what remains, and gives you a route in case you no longer have access to your account.
Deleting your account in the app
The deletion takes five steps and is confirmed with a code sent to your email address. It takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.
- Sign in to HorseCompanion.
- Open “Me” at the bottom and tap your name at the top. The page is called “Profile”. On a computer: the profile menu at the top right, then “Settings”.
- Scroll down to the “Danger zone” and choose “Delete account”.
- Step 1 shows you what will be deleted. Tick “I understand that this action cannot be undone” and tap “Continue”.
- Step 2 asks why. Answering is optional. “Continue without answering” skips it.
- Steps 3 and 4: tap “Send verification code” and enter the code we email to you.
- Step 5: type DELETE and tap “Permanently delete my account”. At that moment the account is gone.
First: take your data with you
Once the account is deleted there is nothing left to export. Under “Me” → “Security” you will find “Export My Data” and the “Download Data” button. You get a JSON file holding your horses, activities, health records, expenses, feeding and training entries. Its name starts with horsecompanion-my-data and ends with the date of the export. Save it before you start the deletion.
What is deleted
Deleting the account removes your profile data, your horses including images and documents, activities and calendar entries, health records and BCS assessments, feeding plans, training entries, expenses and receipts, emergency contacts and emergency QR profiles, your passkeys and signed-in devices, and the usage events recorded for your account. Existing riding partnerships end, and the people involved are notified. Logs of security-relevant actions remain, but they lose their link to you.
What remains
Two things outlive the deletion, and we would rather say so plainly: logs of emails already sent, which contain the recipient address and name, and any reason you volunteer when deleting. Backups already taken are not covered by a deletion. They are overwritten automatically within three months at the latest as part of the retention cycle. Aggregated daily statistics without any personal reference may be kept for longer.
If you have lost access
Mailbox lost, device gone, sign-in no longer possible: then the route inside the app is out of reach. Write to us in that case and name the email address the account was created with: [email protected]
How we identify you, and when we answer
An account is never deleted on the mere mention of an email address. That would be an invitation to strangers. If your message comes from the address on file, that is enough. If that mailbox is lost too, we ask for two details only you can know, such as the name of a horse on the account and roughly when you registered. We answer within 30 days, as a rule much sooner, and confirm the deletion by email.
